Team
AI does not replace your team
It takes the repetitive work off your team's hands and gives them time back for guests.
Mention AI in a hotel and the team's first reaction is nearly always the same: are they replacing us? It is a fair worry, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a slogan. The short answer is no. AI in hospitality is not built to replace the front desk, housekeeping or the restaurant. It is built to take the repetitive work off their plate and give them time back for what actually sets a hotel apart: looking after guests.
A fair worry deserves a straight answer
Whenever a new tool shows up, the people who worry first are the ones already stretched thin. In most hotels that means the front desk and housekeeping. Telling them "AI is your friend" does not help. This does:
- Yes, some tasks get automated. Frequently asked questions, routine requests, sending each request to the right department, and translation.
- No, it does not replace the team. An upset guest at 11 pm, a VIP arrival, a delicate complaint or a recommendation made for that one person still need someone from the hotel.
- Staffing is the hotel's call. AI does not decide how many people work a shift; management does. Estevano is designed to add to your team, not to cut it.
What AI actually takes on in a hotel
The usual mistake is to think AI does everything. It does not. It takes on a very specific kind of task, the kind that drains people most and differentiates least:
- Frequently asked questions. Breakfast hours, the wifi, the pool, parking, checkout time. The questions the front desk answers a hundred times a day.
- Routine requests. Towels, an extra pillow, late checkout, a taxi, a table at the restaurant. They come in as tickets and go straight to the right team.
- Triage. Telling what is urgent from what can wait, and sending each request to its department.
- Translation. Serving each guest in their own language, without the front desk juggling a translation app.
What stays outside AI is exactly what guests remember: the person who welcomed them, the server who remembered their allergy, the concierge who got them a table at a restaurant that was fully booked. That is not something you hand over.
What changes for each role
Front desk
Without help, a receptionist spends the day answering "what time is breakfast?" while another guest waits with their luggage. With Estevano, the chat answers that question, and the front desk can focus on welcomes, delicate issues and the conversations guests actually remember. The phone stops ringing for the basics too: an AI voice receptionist can pick up, and it does more than give information. It gets things done.
Housekeeping and maintenance
Today a lot of information arrives on scraps of paper or in crossed messages. With Estevano, when a guest asks for something or reports a fault, a ticket comes in with the room, the priority and the time. Housekeeping and maintenance see a tidy list instead of a jumble of messages. It does not take their work away. It puts it in order.
Restaurant
Bookings that used to go through the front desk or the phone now come straight from the guest app, based on the restaurant's real availability. The maître d' stops writing reservations by hand and spends time where judgment matters: fitting in groups, moving tables and looking after seated guests.
Management
For a general manager, AI is not a promise. It is a clear view of operations: how many requests came in today, how many were handled on time, which department is overloaded and which issue keeps coming back. That is how staffing decisions get made on data instead of gut feeling.
Rolling it out well matters as much as rolling it out
Switching on an AI and walking away is the most expensive mistake. It works when the team treats it as their own tool:
- Short, clear training. The team learns to read the console, correct answers and take over when needed. Without training, even the best system ends up ignored.
- The team is in charge of the AI. If an answer does not fit the hotel's style, it gets changed. When the team solves a new question, Estevano learns it for next time.
- Handing over to a person when it should. A serious AI does not keep trying what it cannot solve. It passes the case to the team with the full context, so the guest does not have to start again.
- Data in plain sight. Which requests were handled, which are still open and how long each department took. No data, no improvement.
How not to install a bot and forget about it
It is the classic frustration of hotels that tried a generic chatbot a few years ago: it went live, nobody looked at it again, and guests kept calling the front desk. To avoid that, you need three things:
- An owner in the hotel. Someone from the management team, the front office or guest experience who checks the console every week.
- Continuous improvement. Weak answers get fixed, new requests get added and hotel policies stay up to date.
- A provider that sticks around. Estevano onboarding is assisted, and the product keeps learning from what your team resolves.
The bottom line
AI in hospitality does not replace the team. It takes the repetitive work so people can spend their time on what makes the difference: a warm welcome, a problem solved properly, a recommendation made for that guest. Those come from people, which is exactly why they are worth protecting.
Staffing stays the hotel's decision. The tool only changes where your people put their time. To see how it all fits together, take a look at how it works, the product or the plans.
